Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

1. Who We Are

Family Camping Club operates https://familycampingclub.co.uk/, a membership website that helps members discover campsites and access campsite discounts.

In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Family Camping Club.

2. Personal Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you use our website.

Members

When you register for an account, we may collect your first name, email address, password stored in hashed form, marketing preferences, information about campsite discount codes and offers you view, and information you provide when contacting us or using membership features.

Campsite Owners And Listing Providers

If you register or submit a campsite listing, we may collect your name, contact details, email address, account credentials, campsite name and address, facilities, descriptions, photographs, offers and information submitted when managing your listing.

Campsite Of The Year Competition

If you vote, nominate a campsite or enter your own campsite in our Campsite Of The Year competition, we keep a record of your vote, the campsite you voted for or nominated, and any details you give us in the entry form, such as the campsite name, town, county, website, email address and your reasons for recommending it. If you join or list a campsite at the same time as voting, we collect the member or campsite owner details described above. Votes are linked to your account so that we can limit each member to one vote per campsite and review suspicious voting. Public leaderboards show campsite names and vote totals, not who voted.

Reviews

If you submit a campsite review, your first name and review may be displayed publicly on the relevant campsite page. Please avoid including personal information about yourself or other people in a review.

Booking Enquiries

If you submit a booking enquiry through our website, we may collect your name, contact details, requested dates, party size, special requests, membership number and discount code, where applicable.

Website Usage

Depending on your cookie preferences and the features you use, we may collect information about pages visited, time spent on pages, device and browser type, downloads and clicks on external links.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information where necessary to:

4. Our Lawful Basis For Processing

Under UK data protection law, we rely on one or more of the following lawful bases, depending on the circumstances:

You can withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent. This does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it.

5. Cookies And Website Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to support the operation of our website.

We use an essential cookie to keep you logged in, and one to remember your cookie choice. Optional statistics, including Google Analytics, are collected only if you select the Statistics option in our cookie banner. Adverts from our advertising partners, such as Decathlon and OLPRO affiliate adverts served through Awin, only load if you choose Advertising partners, and those partners may set their own cookies once they load.

Where available, you can change your preferences through our Cookie Settings.

For further information, read our Cookies Policy.

6. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information with:

We take reasonable steps to ensure that service providers handle personal information appropriately and securely.

Member contact details are not routinely provided to campsites simply because a member views a listing or discount. Campsites may receive aggregate information about interest in their offers, where available, without being given the identities of those members.

7. Booking Enquiries And Campsite Responsibility

Family Camping Club helps members contact campsites about potential bookings. We do not take payment for bookings through this process.

When you submit a booking enquiry, the information you provide is sent to the relevant campsite so it can respond to your request. A copy may also be sent to you by email.

Where booking enquiries are stored in campsite accounts, authorised campsite users may be able to view, manage or download them.

The campsite will use your information to handle your enquiry and any resulting booking. The campsite may act as an independent data controller for its subsequent use of your information and is responsible for explaining that use in its own privacy notice.

Please check the campsite’s privacy information if you have questions about how it handles your booking details.

Member ratings

Our member star ratings page explains in plain English why we have them and how they work. After a confirmed stay booked as a member, the campsite may rate the stay for up to 30 days after you leave: an overall score from 1 to 5 stars, yes or no answers on whether you turned up as booked, respected quiet hours, left the pitch clean and tidy, followed the site rules and arrived and left on time, and an optional short note.

Every member starts with a rating of 5 stars. Your member rating is the average of that starting 5 and the ratings you receive. When you ask to book, the campsite can see your member rating, how many completed stays you have, the answers above, recent notes and any replies you have written. Campsites do not see which campsite wrote each rating.

You can see your rating and every rating you have received on your My bookings page, and you can reply to any of them. If you believe a rating is inaccurate or unfair, please contact us and we will review it; we hide ratings that break our rules. We use your ratings on the basis of our legitimate interests, and those of campsites, in helping campsites take bookings with confidence and protecting their sites and other guests. Ratings are not used to make any decision about you automatically: each campsite decides for itself whether to accept a booking.

To keep ratings and reviews fair, a campsite’s rating of a stay and the member’s review of that campsite are kept private for up to 14 days after the stay, until both have been given, and are then published together. We review ratings and reviews that may be a reaction to each other, and ratings from a campsite that rates almost every guest low do not count towards members’ scores.

8. Marketing Communications

We may send you news, camping tips, membership updates and relevant offers where we are permitted to do so.

Where marketing consent is required, we will ask for it separately. You can unsubscribe using the link in a marketing email or contact us to update your preferences.

Unsubscribing from marketing will not prevent us from sending essential messages about your account or services you have requested.

9. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including any legal, accounting or security requirements.

Our retention periods are:

When information is no longer needed, we will delete it or anonymise it where appropriate.

Deleting your account may not immediately remove information held in backups or records that we must retain for legal reasons.

10. Keeping Your Information Secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure.

Passwords are stored in hashed form, and access to personal information is restricted to people and service providers who need it for legitimate purposes.

No website or method of electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. International Transfers

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside the United Kingdom.

Where personal information is transferred internationally, we will take steps required by applicable data protection law to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place.

12. Your Data Protection Rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:

You can update some account details or request account deletion through the My Account area, where those features are available.

To exercise your rights, contact us at info [at] familycampingclub [dot] co [dot] uk. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk/.

13. Children’s Privacy

Family Camping Club is intended for people who are able to create and manage an account under our membership terms. Children should not provide personal information or create accounts where they are not permitted to do so under those terms.

If you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately, contact us so we can review the situation.

14. Links To Other Websites

Our website may contain links to campsite websites, booking services and other third-party websites.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites. When you leave our website, check the privacy policy of the website you visit.

15. Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, systems or legal obligations change.

The latest version will be published on this page with its updated date. Where required by law, we will notify affected users of significant changes.
