Every family is different. A toddler needs level ground and a short walk to the toilets, while teenagers want things to do. Use this guide to work out what matters to you, then check the campsites that offer our members a discount.
What to look for
- Play area or open space: somewhere children can burn off energy without a car journey.
- Clean toilets and showers: ask about hot water, baby-changing and a family bathroom.
- On-site shop or café: a pint of milk or a bacon roll can save a morning.
- Beach, river, lake or woods nearby: free entertainment, but see our water safety advice.
- Dog friendly: check the rules if you are bringing the dog. See camping with dogs.
- Games room or pool: useful insurance against bad weather.
- Campfires allowed: some sites have fire pits or sell firewood. Many do not allow open fires at all.
