Cookies policy

What are cookies?
Cookies are small files a website saves on your phone, tablet or computer. Browsers also have a similar place called local storage. We call both of them “cookies” on this page to keep it simple.
Essential: always on
These make the club work. The law lets us use them without asking, because you could not log in or use the site without them.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
fcc_session (cookie) | Keeps you logged in as a member, campsite owner or sponsor, and keeps your login safe. It holds no personal details you could read. | Ends after 30 minutes of no activity |
fcc_cookies (cookie) | Remembers the choice you make in our cookie pop-up, so we do not ask on every page. | 6 months |
fccLastActive (local storage) | Logs you out after 30 minutes of doing nothing, even if you have several tabs open. Only used while you are logged in. | Until you clear your browser data |
fcc-ck-… (local storage) | Remembers which items you ticked on our printable camping checklists, on your own device only, so your ticks are still there next time. | Until you clear your browser data |
Statistics: only if you say yes
If you choose Statistics, we count how the club is used so we can make it better for camping families. When this is on we record:
- which pages you open, and how long each one is open and in use;
- how many times you visit, and the type of device and browser you use;
- which free downloads you take;
- when you click an advert, our sponsor, a partner, a campsite’s website, or Book this rally; and
- whether an advert was on your screen.
Choosing Statistics also switches on Google Analytics (Google tag), which sets its own cookies and sends anonymous usage information to Google so we can see how the website is used. Until you say yes, Google is told not to store cookies or identifiers.
If you are logged in as a member, this is linked to your membership so the club’s webmaster can see how members use the club. If you are not logged in, only the clicks and adverts-seen counts are kept, with nothing that says who you are. We do not store your IP address, and these statistics do not put any cookie on your device. We never sell them, and campsites and advertisers never see who you are. Records are deleted automatically after 12 months, or sooner if you delete your account.
Advertising partners: only if you say yes
Our adverts, including our partners Decathlon and OLPRO, are plain links that we show ourselves. They set no cookies on this site. If we ever switch on an advertising network, such as Google AdSense, its adverts will only load if you have chosen Advertising partners, because those networks can use their own cookies.
Other websites
- Maps. Our maps use Leaflet, loaded from unpkg.com, and map pictures from OpenStreetMap. Your device contacts those servers to show the map, so they can see your IP address. As far as we know they do not set cookies.
- Links that leave the club. When you click through to Facebook, Decathlon or OLPRO (through the Awin network), a campsite’s own website or any other site, that site’s own cookies apply. Please read their policies. Partner links such as Decathlon’s and OLPRO’s may set a cookie when you arrive so they can credit the club for the visit.
Changing your mind
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings button at the bottom of every page, or this one: . You can also delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, you will be logged out and asked about cookies again.
