Camping With Babies and Toddlers

What to pack, how to help little ones sleep, and how to stay safe when camping with a baby or toddler.

Kids and family · 6 min read · Updated 3 October 2026

Camping with a baby or toddler is very doable, and many families say it is easier than they expected. A little extra planning goes a long way.

What to pack

  • Nappies, nappy bags, wipes and a changing mat, plus more than you think you need.
  • Formula, bottles and sterilising kit, or a plan for washing and sterilising on site.
  • A travel cot or playpen, so your child has a safe place to be.
  • Extra blankets and spare clothes, as babies get messy and cold quickly.
  • A baby monitor if you will be sitting outside while they nap.
  • A portable high chair or booster seat, a potty for toddlers, and a pushchair or baby carrier.
  • Sun hat, shade and sun cream (suitable for the age of your child).
  • Comfort items and cuddly toys. One family guide calls forgetting the cuddly toy a "big mistake".
